A Day At The Park

We want it to be spring so badly that we decided to make today a family trip Tyler State Park in Bucks County. We packed a picnic, took frisbees and a football to make a day of it. Never mind that the projected high was 50 degrees! It was sunny so we would take it! Here are a couple pictures...

The blanket that we took to sit on was used to cuddle up while we ate!



After lunch Caed had a lesson in skipping rocks.




Then we found a little playhouse that had ladders, slides and a fireman pole. Abby needed a little help with the pole! (Notice Caed's head in the corner!)



We ended up on the playgound.




Over all it was a fun day! Even if we were FREEZING!

On Thursday, April 3rd Arcadia Christian Fellowship is hosting Chad Thompson, author of "Loving Homosexuals As Jesus Would" and regular speaker. We heard him share some of his testimony (formerly homosexual) at the Jubilee Conference in February and thought his message would open some lines of communication within the Arcadia community. The gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) representation on campus is strong, and since the discussion of homosexuality and Christianity is such a hot topic, we have committed this event to much prayer. Chad Thompson is author of the book Loving Homosexuals as Jesus Would. His book tries to bridge the gap between the evangelical world and the gay and lesbian community; To show LGBT people that Christians who oppose them politically are not always motivated by hatred or homophobia, and to challenge conservative Christians to put aside their plastic rhetoric and show the LGBT community a kind of love that produces true humanitarianism. Chad has appeared in Time Magazine, World Magazine, Charisma Magazine, Christianity Today, The Washington Times, Townhall.com, and Outreach Magazine named Chad’s book the best target ministry resource of 2004.

"The Work Isn't Finished!"

Several months ago I (Greg) was asked to co-lead a spring break mission trip for some students from Philadelphia Biblical University. The seven of us just returned from Slidell, Louisiana, where we served for a week. Though staying at Faith Bible Church in Slidell, we made the short commute into New Orleans every day to work.

“The work isn’t finished!” This was the message from the church pastor and all the volunteer work coordinators who have made Slidell their home since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the region in August 2005. We spent most of our week laying floors (hardwood and tile), hanging and mudding drywall, and texturing walls in a house in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. This house was about 200 yards from one of the sections where the levee broke. The result was that most of the houses were picked up off their foundations and carried away by 15 feet of water! We spent part of a day handing out bags of food in Tent City, a homeless “village” under the I-10 overpass in downtown New Orleans. Many of the men we met became homeless because of the hurricane, and have never recovered.

If you or your church are interested in taking a team into the Slidell/New Orleans region, I highly recommend looking up Faith Bible Church in Slidell—they have a highly organized operation going and have already hosted almost 4,000 workers since the hurricane.
